High-flying Rochdale eyeing promotion after convincing victory over Boreham Wood

Two goals from Emmanuel Dieseruvwe and a goal each from Devante Rodney and Ian Henderson secured a 4-1 victory over fourth placed Boreham Wood.

The victory brings them two points clear at the top of the table. With two games in hand, promotion looks more and more likely for the Dale.

The host began the contest brightly, as they went straight out attack from the start. It took only six minutes before they found the back of the net.

Rochdale’s Tobi Adebayo-Rowling sent a great cross into a dangerous area. The cross found striker Devante Rodney’s head, who slotted it home.

The host continued to press the opposition, and scored their second goal in the 28th minute. A high corner kick from Rochdale’s Ryan East found Dieseruvwe’s head in the box. He made no mistake, and gave The Dale a two goal lead into half time.

The second half began like the first one, and it didn’t take long before Rochdale got their third of the day. Dieseruvwe picked up on a poor pass from Boreham Wood’s Joe Newton. He made no mistake alone with the keeper, and slotted home his second of the day.

Boreham got a consolation goal after Dale goalkeeper Oliver Whatmuff fouled Zak Brunt and conceded a penalty. Brunt took it himself, and slotted it home from the spot.

It was too little too late for Boreham, as substitute Ian Henderson made it four for Rochdale, scoring his 165th goal for the club.

The match ended 4-1, and Rochdale go two points clear at the top of the table with two games in hand. Rochdale will look forward to add to their points tally as they will welcome Carlisle on Saturday, while Boreham will hope to bounce-back from their four-game loss streak away at Woking.
