Salford centenary celebrations take over Peel Park

From The Other joined forces with Salford City Council to create something powerful than truly demonstrated what it really means to be a Salfordian.

Taking over Peel Park for two unforgettable nights, and projected onto the University of Salford’s very own Maxwell building, Salford Everywhere is not only celebrating Salford’s century of city-hood but rather the people who make it.

Choreographed by Kevin Turner, who runs Company Chameleon, the production featured dancing, with the youngest participant being two months old and the oldest being in their nineties.

Mark Carlin, Co-Director at From The Other, said that there was not a specific requirement for those who were involved in the event, nor was there a required age.

All the live shows featured Pendleton Sixth Form College choir and Eccles Borough Band and Salford Poet Lynn Walton.

Taking around eighteen months to plan and organise, Salford Everywhere is one of the bigger events of the Salford100 celebrations.

However, the projection is not where the event ends, Salford Shopping City was lit up in tandem.

Visitors could also experience ‘A sound path along the River Irwell’, a selection of recordings from the River Irwell, both above and below to create a calming walk down into the park.

Mark said: “Salford everywhere is for all of the people of Salford. We wanted to see what does the city look like in 2026?”

Filming over one thousand five hundred different people, they hope to have created a living portrait of the city and have were involved with a huge number of community groups such as Dancing with Dementia.

They had a six-month outreach into the community to find the participants for the event, “people who live and work here”.

There was not a specific criterion or audition process for the participants just that they be from Salford and willing to take part.

When asked about what it means to the community Mark said:

“I think we need moments to come together, there is so much that connects us”
