Shock’s Charity Campsite, with presenters Freya and Gracie in action
Shock Radio, the University of Salford’s student radio station, have raised £1,865 in aid of local mental health charity, ‘Mind in Salford’.
The station broadcast non-stop for 24 hours between last Friday and Saturday, as part of an event called Charity Campsite. This was the station’s fifth Campsite, and this year, the station raised more money than it ever has before.
The 24-hours were packed full of content, including a wedding (!), a new ‘Shock song’, comedy, Wii games, a 12-hour dart-a-thon and much, much more.
The broadcast was this year hosted by third year students Gracie Jones and Freya Johnson. Gracie said: “I had so much fun presenting charity campsite. It was so different to anything I have ever done before, and truly was my biggest challenge yet. Ultimately, it was so special seeing our team all work together to make something amazing”. She added “To raise as much money as we have for Mind in Salford is just incredible and I am so proud of us all for getting through it with a smile.”
Dan Walters was the executive producer of the broadcast. He said: “Campsite was one of the best things I’ve ever done, throughout the whole day I felt so happy that everyone was working so closely to raise so much money for Mind in Salford”.
Paola Fish, Communications Co-ordinator made a special appearance during the programme to discuss the work done by the charity. On the completion of the broadcast, she said: “We want to say the biggest thank you to all of the Shock team for their amazing fundraising and support”, adding that “It takes a whole lot of effort and teamwork to pull something like this off”.
