Salford RLFC coach, Dave Hewitt, spoke to the press, about how his plan to build on the performance his side showed in the second half against Sheffield Eagles.
“We always concentrate on ourselves, concentrate on the performances, performances have been building.
“Had a little hiccup first 40 minutes at Sheffield in terms of standards not being there, but second half, we came out and put a few wrongs right.”
Salford RLFC’s last home game came in a 29-28 win over Batley, courtesy of a drop goal from Warrington Wolves loanee Leon Hayes (who has since signed for Widnes). Hewitt said the “fans have been unbelievable for us, in terms of being an 18th man.”
“The fans have been 100% behind us, hopefully they’ll bring the same atmosphere on Sunday.”
Salford RLFC play host to fifth place Widnes Vikings, who have won three consecutive games in the Championship.
He described Widnes as an “established team, established club, who will be striving for that top four (places), so no doubt it’ll be a challenge.”
“Every week is a challenge, in terms of the Championship, it’s a tough division, and each team senses challenges.”
“They’ve got players from either edge with good back rowers and a decent fullback as well who’s sharp.”
While speaking about fullbacks, the club earlier announced the signings of Owain Abel and Callum Green, who will hopefully increase squad depth in the Salford team.
“Owain’s an out and out full back, can bring us pace out of the back, and has a running threat , looking forward when he’s back fit. Callum (Green) is predominately a fullback but also covered as a winger against Swinton and fullback against Sheffield, he can also play in the halves.”
Hooker Brad Dywer also returns and is “back in first team selection” from his week-long loan from Castleford.
Salford RLFC take on Widnes Vikings at the CorpAcq Stadium on Sunday 10th May 2026, 3pm kick-off.
