‘Manchester is a city that does things proper’: Shake Shack opens in Trafford Centre

Shake Shack Trafford Centre

The Trafford Centre has become the first northern host of the American Burger Chain ‘Shake Shack’.

The Halal Restaurant will be opening its doors to the public on the 27th of March 2026 from 12pm, based in the Orient Food Court, opposite Five Guys. They will be giving out 100 free ShackBurger’s or ‘Shroom Burgers to the public on opening day. They also will continuously be serving complimentary scoops of the American dessert, frozen custard, whilst supplies last.

This will be the company’s 19th restaurant across the United Kingdom- yet first in the north- despite the popular demand across the United States, in which they have over 350 locations. Yet, the company never forgets their humble roots of the first restaurant operating out of a hot dog cart in Madison Square Garden in 2001.

Business Director for Shake Shack UK, Richard Franks, said: “Manchester’s a city that does things proper. It’s full of heart, graft and great taste. We can’t wait to be a part if this city”.

The Shake Shack is a company with heart, despite being on the pricier side, they prioritise quality ingredients from halal backgrounds, something which Manchester needs, and every restaurant is dog friendly. Each site partners with a local artist to design all artwork around the shack and they have chosen Manchester based creative Jessica Lee, whose bold style brings an individual, northern flair to the restaurant.

The company also partners with local foodbanks several times a year to give back to the community in which they are based.

From opening, the company has generated over 70 jobs for the Mancunian youth and helps them work in a fast-paced environment whilst developing the confidence and teamwork for their future careers, a great output into our local community.

Franks also said that: “My favourite part of working at Shake Shack is without a question, the people. There’s a genuine sense of care for our teams and communities that runs through everything that we do…being recognised as a ‘Great Place to Work’, makes us especially proud because it reflects the culture we worked so hard to build”.
