Diners lined up in the dozens on Saturday 14th February to sample Eggslut’s new offerings, with some customers waiting over 30 minutes just to make it inside.
The launch of this branch marks a distinct change in location for the Los Angeles-based chain, as the first Eggslut restaurant in the UK outside of London.
The egg conglomerate currently operates six affiliate stores dotted across the capital, as well as eateries in Tokyo, Kuwait, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Seattle.
Though the name Eggslut may appear grossly offensive at first, as per a 2020 food review by Ed Cumming, the name seems to be a colloquial chef’s term, meaning someone who adds an egg to everything they cook.
Food offerings are therefore unsurprisingly egg-based, with signature dishes including the Fairfax (scrambled egg and caramelised onion in a brioche bun) and The ‘Slut’ (coddled egg with potato purée, cooked in a glass jar and served with toast).

Despite Saturday’s large crowd, diners were happy to queue for the food- one customer, Lucy Walters, admitted to queueing for around 30 minutes for a table, but described the food as “incredible”.
She said: “I got The ‘Slut’ and my boyfriend got the Bacon, Egg and Cheese Sandwich with some hash browns on the side. I’m not normally a breakfast person, but Eggslut has changed that!”
“The food was cooked perfectly, filled me up, and most importantly, was delicious!”
Another diner, Lucy Turner, found that the restaurant had “good sized portions” but felt that there “could’ve been napkins and cutlery provided as it’s quite messy to eat”.
She continued: “I thought overall maybe a little overpriced and could do with more seating, but it’s in a good location opposite Spinningfields”.

The Manchester branch has already garnered over 20 reviews on Google over the last five days, earning Eggslut Manchester an average of 4.4 stars, but unfortunately not all are positive.
Allegations of ‘subtle racism’ from staff members towards one customer, and another customer describing their drink as the ‘worst coffee [they’ve] had all year’ have landed amongst overwhelmingly positive reviews.
Eggslut Manchester has responded to both these comments on Google, with their reply to the first reading: “We take concerns relating to discrimination and customer experience extremely seriously. Please can you contact ask@eggslut.com with a phone number where you can be reached, and a member of our management team will contact you directly to discuss this further.”
Eggslut UK did not respond to request for comment on this article.
