The first UK floor curling championships took place on 21st February at the curling club in Deansgate.
Floor curling is the grassroots version of the ice curling done on 8-10 metre plastic sheets with ball bearings compared to the 40 metre ice sheets used at the Olympics.
The curling club has seen a surge in attendees since the Winter Olympics took place from the 6th – 22nd February 2026.

The Olympic curling saw Sweden and Canada sweeping up the competition, with Sweden winning two golds and Canada with one gold and one silver. Team GB left the curling with one silver medal.
Sponsored by world curling and the team GB foundation, the championships marked the first of its kind in the UK. The partnership aims to push causal curling up into the mainstream.
Dylan Salamon, Director of The Curling Club deemed that Floor Curling in the future will be “Taking over.” Adding that “we are the pinnacle of sporting perfection.”
2021 Dylan opened floor curling venues in London after being inspired by Team GB being favourites for curling at the Beijing Olympics.
Since then, multiple venues have been opened across the UK, with them located in Canary wharf (London), Vinegar Yard (London), and Deansgate in Manchester.
“Across all genders, all abilities, everyone has an equal chance to be competitive in floor curling.”

University of Salford student Freddie Beckett and teammate Steven snatched first place to become the Uk’s first national champions
With a newfound upwards trajectory, the next step for world curling is to expand and promote the sports in schools across the country for the newest generation of floor curling prospects.
