Veronica Safoa Owusu with her Global Impact trophy

A Ghanaian entrepreneur in Manchester has won a global business award for her work to improve schools and infrastructure back in her home country.

Veronica Safoa Owusu, the president of Educational Communities Worldwide (EduCom), received the prestigious Global Impact Award at the Africa4U Black Tech Expo event in Manchester for her impact in the education sector in Ghana.

EduCom has been instrumental in providing scholarships, building boreholes for clean water and donating technology to impoverished schools in the country.

Mrs Owusu said: “Education and employment should be a certainty for everyone, not a luxury.

“This award strengthens our resolve as a EduCom to continue building the infrastructure that makes those dreams possible.”

During her acceptance speech, Mrs Owusu emphasised the importance of resilience.

She spoke of her “Gold Dust” philosophy a concept she pioneered that encourages individuals to view their most difficult life experiences as valuable assets for growth and service.

The Africa4U Awards, which highlight excellence in education, technology, and community impact, lauded Owusu’s commitment to “protecting the humanity” of leaders while scaling social enterprises.

Her work has bridged the gap between the UK and Ghana, fostering a network of support for under-resourced students in her home country of Ghana.

The recognition comes as EduCom prepares to launch new initiatives for 2026, including expanding the organisation’s mobile school programmes and executive coaching workshops designed to help mission-driven leaders sustain their impact without burnout.

The ceremony, hosted at the Salford Business School, brought together influential voices from the African diaspora to recognise individuals driving meaningful change across the globe.
