Crystal Lane-Wright’s golden return as Manchester hosts The Lloyds National Track Championships

Para-cyclist Crystal Lane-Wright celebrated a winning return after giving birth to a baby boy when she won gold at The Lloyds National Track Championships.

Lane-Wright competed in the final of the Para-cycling Women’s Scratch race against familar competitors Rebecca Newark and Morgan Newberry.

The outcome of the race proposed uncertainity, with the three neck a neck for the for last quater of the 40 lap race.

The championships took place over the weekend at the National Cycling centre in Manchester. 

Lane-Wright displayed her phenonmenal determination to cross the line in first place.

The gold medalist said: “I hope i have done enough here to prove that i can do well, hopefully on the world stage.

“But i think mostly it’s given me the confidence that the training i have done since coming back has been good enough”

Both cycling and para-cycling events were present and included qualifying heats and finals. 

The event welcomed riders from all around the country to compete in a range of disciplines including the Men’s Team Sprint, Women’s point race qualification and the Women’s 10km scratch final.

The Men’s Team Sprint established the atmosphere in the arena, whereby only the fastest eight teams were able to qualify for the final round.

Team Inspired A,B and C dominated the semi-final team sprint and secured the top three positions to seal their ticket to the final round.

Team Inspired A: 43.850

Team Inspired B: 44.043

Team Inspired C: 44.056

The inspired team acts as a development pathway for young emerging riders and intends to prepare them for international competitions, graded from Team A to Team C.

The event saw a successful turnout with many ethusiastic fans in attendance.

Spectator Millie Lumb said: “Really exciting time, it was great to see so many British Atheletes perfoming at such a high level, especially with the Common Wealth Games around the corner.

“To see Matt Richardson excel under the British flag after the form he displayed for Australia at the Paris Olympics was great to see”

After a National Chamiponships to remember, the riders now set their sights on international selection later on in the year
